• Question: Have you ever made something with either your friends or colleagues that when you finished it it made you happy and sad at the same time? If so what was it ?

      A lot of the projects I work on last for years, so I haven’t seen the launch of a project I’d consider “mine” yet sadly. But one of the things I worked on was the proposal for a future mission, where we bid to the European Space Agency to build a satellite. It was a lot of work, in a short space of time, and I had exactly this mix of feelings at the end of it! Proud of the work we’d put in and what we’d accomplished, happy that it was over and I could relax, sad because it was a great team effort and I wouldn’t be working with them on the project again…

      Yes! I worked for a while as an intern for the NASA OSIRIS-REx asteroid sample return mission. I really enjoyed the work and the team atmosphere, and I was very proud to be a part of that team and contribute to the mission. But I finished my internship role prior to the mission actually sampling asteroid Bennu. Watching the sampling event last year, I was a bit sad that I’m no longer a part of this team but I am very happy and thankful that I did have the opportunity to participate in this mission at one point.
