      A geostationary satellite is a satellite which is at an altitude (height above sea/ground level) of around 35,786 km above the Earth’s equator. It orbits the Earth at the same rate as the Earth spinning (24 hours) so it always looks like it’s in the same place!
      (This is why it’s also referred to as a geosynchronous satellite sometimes, as it’s ‘in sync’ with the Earth’s rotation!)
